Just in case you didn’t already have enough proof of my social ineptitude:

I visited a new reader’s site this weekend. She had a profile listed there, so I checked it out and found it to be quite riveting. It touched on some extremely horrible things that had happened in her past, but there was also a positive theme of Just Getting On With Life coming through.

So I wanted to drop her a line. What I meant to say was, “Hey I found that entry riveting. Shockingly powerful”.

So what comes out instead? What do I say to someone who has been a victim of violence And Worse?

- “Whoa, that ‘101 things about me’ is like a punch in the face. But in a nice way.”

Yeah, I know. Sometimes I just open my mouth and words stumble out.

Fortunately for me, she replied with a “Nice to meet you, D-Man. I don't understand how a punch could be nice, but hey - whatever you like, lol.”.

Here’s me gently back-pedalling, saying that I meant it “Metaphorically, of course, but some times things that shock are good because you learn things, and learning things is good, unless the things you learn are bad. In which case they are not necessarily good. If you know what I mean. No? Neither do I, I'm just rambling on...”

If only I had a 10-second delay. But it’s unlikely that I’ll ever be called upon to sing or expose my breasts at the Superbowl, anyway …

I went to a cocktail party last night.
When the hostess phoned to invite me, she was all excited about holding a party where she got to dress up, and I innocently asked how one goes about dressing up as a cocktail. She pointed out that a cocktail party is actually not a fancy dress party where you turn up in a Pina Colada suit. It’s where people dress up in suits and frocks and drink cocktails. Oh.

I sure felt like a cock though after turning up in an evening dress...
