Better dead, than a country singer
23 April, 2008 ---- 10:21 PM

I made my mother cry.

I’m a bad son.

I've sort of been aware for sometime that none of the songs I’ve written have been the sort of songs that I could take home to meet my parents.

So I wanted to remedy that.

My dad likes cowboy songs. So I wanted to write a song about a cowboy.
We were jamming at Christmas using some chords that he had learned, so I thought it would be cool to incorporate those chords, so then he could play it if he liked it.

I thought the song would end up some sad D-man-style cowboy song. But before I knew it, I’d written a love song. Based on a true story. My parents’.

Then I decided to kill two birds with one stone by getting a friend who wanted to collaborate with me to play harmonica on it.

I think they liked it.
Mum said she cried when she heard it.
Dad said “that’s the song I want played when I’m in the casket”.

 Play song
