All my bags are packed
31 May, 2008 ---- 9:55 PM

I went to a leaving party last night for the guy whose soul I still own.

He’s going overseas with his girlfriend.

It was good, even though I was feeling like crap (yet another cold) and lost my voice trying to talk/shout over the loud music in that small bar.

I left after midnight. Someone txted me this morning to say the guy whose soul I still own had been hit on by a gay Samoan after I left. So I txted the guy whose soul I still own to say I heard he got hit on by a gay Samoan, but he txted back to say “No. I got hit and knocked out by a great big Samoan.”

I guess either scenario was going to end with an ouch.

The other band members are finally free to catch up and work on some songs this weekend. But I fly out with my wife and girls for an overseas holiday at 3.30am tonight. For a fortnight.

So, damn. It’ll have to wait.

I have two new songs to submit to them.

One of them is a song that is only 1minute30seconds long. The third member of the band is the only real musician, but he considers the lyrical side of things to be his weakpoint. So I said that if he had any musical bits that needed some words, to fire them through and I’ll have a crack.

So he sent through this cool little song which had drums, bass and guitar. When I listened to it initially, I thought, Shit. I got nothing. But then 15 minutes later I had a song. There’s maybe a couple of lines that need fixing up, but I’m hoping the others like it and that the singer wants to sing it. I haven’t really written songs this way before (normally I get the melody and words first and then add chords) and was surprised and somewhat pleased. The phrasing seems to fit quite well.

I initially wrote this second song as a poem. But then a melody appeared and the next thing I knew I had my electric guitar out.
It is a second-time-around break-up song. But there's a fear/hope of getting back together again and making it a third. Because the girl is this man’s junkie-lover.

Vocals are a little weak, but the idea is that someone else will be singing this anyway.

OK. See you guys in a little while.
